About the Artist

DICHOT|PHOTO is the photography of Sarah Daniels. Much of her work is focused on contrast and contradiction. Her work encompasses street photography, abstracts, landscapes, and fine art photography. The weirder the content and juxtaposition, the better.

Sarah prefers to work with tactile, analog materials. She usually shoots on film (with a strong preference for black and white) using simple, manual cameras. She hand-develops her own negatives and prefers to print the photos in her own darkroom. On the rare occasions when she leaves the house without a film camera, she will shoot on her iPhone if she sees something irresistible. The descriptions of the photographs available for purchase on this website will note the method of creation.

When it comes to photography, Sarah is mostly self-taught and has been engaged in the art form in varying degrees of intensity for nearly four decades. She recently spent a week studying with renowned Baltimore photojournalist J.M. Giordano during one of his summer workshops. Sarah holds an MFA in Creative Writing & Publishing Arts from the University of Baltimore, where she concentrated in fiction. Her fiction has been published under her pseudonym, Persephone King. You can learn more about her written work at persephoneking.com.
